Stories of the Železniki Museum

The bobbin lace dress in the lace collection attracts a lot of attention. It was made in Železniki: Antonija Thaler drew a pattern, the three Primožič sisters from Železniki made it, and one of the sisters brought the individual bobbin lace parts into a dress.

When ironworkers in Železniki established forged nail trade with distant places, they needed proper and durable packaging – wooden barrels. These were made by farmers and tenants in the surrounding areas.

Blacksmiths worked in spike forges (vigenjc). There were over fifty of these workshops in Železniki. Each had at least one furnace with several anvils around it. Masters and their assistants worked with anvils.
